Office Standard sizes are consistent, predicable and safe.
Long before I heard about office standards, I applied for a job as an Interior Designer at BC BS. I couldn’t understand why they had placed an ad for an interior designer, they were an insurance company.
They didn’t really … No one was answering the ad for a “ Construction Communication Coordinator”. An Interior Designer was the next best thing. They ran to see if anyone would show up.
I did. I had been working for a furniture dealership, a pretty yucky job. But the furniture dealership was selling the same furniture system that BCBS used..
I was hired for two reasons, I knew how to specify the furniture system at BCBS to create the size offices they needed, and I could cook a turkey dinner on time.
A turkey dinner ?
Bringing a furniture relocation project on time and within budget is much like cooking a turkey dinner.
It is consistent ... Office sizes are the same … Menu is easy to live with.
Predicable ... The project ready for occupancy by Monday am is equal to a Dinner Served hot by 4:00 pm
Safe ... Nothing unusual here. Same ole Same ole. Everyone moves in …. Every eats dinner.
The surprise for me? Didn’t know I was going to love doing it so much.
